Biography Title


Amidst mother nature, with the river Swarna flowing on one side and green flora of Hirgana on the other side, stands the temple of Devi Adishakti Mahalakshmi. This is the holy temple of Maha Lakshmi situated in Hirgan Lakshmipur, Karkala taluk. At this place the Swarna river is called Ennehole. This temple was built a hundred years ago by the Rajapur Saraswat Brahmin community members.

Initially the expense of daily Pooja and offering in the temple was borne by the members of Rajapur Saraswat Brahmin community.They donated a part of their harvest to the temple. Later on they also donated utensils and other necesseties to the temple. The idol of the Devi Maha Lakshmi has been beautifully carved and the utsav murty has been made out of pancha loha.
The Kalyan Matap attached to this temple was build with the help and generous donations by the members of Rajapur Saraswat Brahmin Community from all over the world. This mantap is very convenient for organizing various auspicious events like marriage, upanayana and various types of sammelans. The generosity of the devotees has helped the temple to organize "Vardhanthya Utsav", Ganesh Utsav, Navratri pooja and Deep Utsav with pomp and grandeur. Chandra Ugadi, Anant Chaturthi, Tulsi Pooja, Nagarpanchami, Upakarma, Krishnashtami and Maha Shiv Ratri are some of the other festivals celebrated in this temple. The general body meeting of the temple held once in 5 years, elects the members of the management committe to look after the affairs of the temple.
To comemorate the completion of 100 years of the temple, the task of renovating the temple was under taken. After it's completion, the temple now bears a very beautiful and aesthetic look. The centinnial celebrations were held from 16 th May 1991 to 21st May 1991. Various ceremonies like Brahma Kalashostva and cutural activities were held every day.
