On 3rd July 1980, a group of veteran members of our community got together in Chevar, with a plan in mind to bring together the people of our community, spread out in the Kasargod district of Kerala state.
Their main aim was to get the members of our community together, increase the interaction between them and to encourage them to develop in the social, cultural, educational and political arena. This meeting was presided by Mani Govind Nayak and the speakers included Kunderi Jayant Nayak, Chevaru Ramakrishna Kamath, Mani Subbanna Nayak and Kunderi Mahabal Nayak. The speakers at this meeting laid down the goals to build Rajapur Saraswat Sangh in Kasargod. With the help and valuable suggestions from Sheni Govind NAyak, Janrdan Nayak and Golitadka Subbraya Nayak on 17th August 1980, sunday , Rajapur Saraswat Samaj, Kasargod was symbolically inaugurated by lighting the traditional lamp, by Shri Kadtal Srinivas Hariappa Nayak. This function was presided by Shri M. Umesh Rao, Mangalore. Alevoor M. Shivram Nayak, Kukkadi Mukund Nayak and Panjikallu Govind Nayak gave valuable guidance regarding the functioning and development of the Samaj.
The Sangh which was created on an auspisious day, was blessed by Jagadguru Shringeri Swamiji and other scholars and veterans of our community. With the support of the people from all around the world, Rajapur Saraswath Sangh Kasaragod has undertaken many programs for our community members. Kasargod Sangh was registered on 31st Dec 1980 in Talacheri, accroding to the Kerala Constitution (Reg No 555/80).
Sangh performed a census and documented the level of education, employement, unempleoyement, annual income and business of all the community members living in Kerala.
Cultural and educational activities, such as Yakshgana (performed by the community members), creation of Rajapur Saraswath Swayam Seva Dal, “Samuhiaka Upanayana” (collective performance of Thread ceremony) for the young boys of our community, Samuhika Satya Narayana Pooja, Samuhika Ganahoma, participation in National level Sammelanas, collection of donations of Kavale Mutt, recognizing, enhancing and honoring the talent in the community and helping people in their tough time, are some of the achievements of the Sangha till now.
The Rajapur Saraswat Sangh of Kasargod sent out an appeal to the Government of Kerala to recognize it as a minority community and provide reservation to the community members in schools/colleges, jobs and scholarships to the needy students. It was under the leadership of Chevaru Janardhana Kamath and help from Kunderi Jayantha Nayak that the Sangha could obtain twa acres of land in Kudala Merkala.
The near term plans for the Sangha is to have it’s own building the office, society, dance classes, stitching classes and accomondation for the Swamiji during his visits.
Sangha also has plans for a Kalyan Mantapa, hostel for students, conducting an all India conference and various other religious, cultural and educational programs.
