On 24th march 1966 his holiness Shrimad Sachchidanand Saraswati Swamiji of Kawle Matt blessed to congregation of Rajapur Saraswats.
Shri K. Jagannath Nayak, M.E. was accorded a reception on 17th Sept. 1965 on the occasion of his obtaining admission for postgraduate study in Indl. Egg in Minnesota University USA.
On 2nd Oct 1967 Shri S. Narayan Nayak was accorded a reception on his being selected for further studies Germany.
With view to augment the fund, a scheme to place small cash boxes near the counters of shops of our community was started so that they can daily insert coins to be collect every month. The boxes being used many years hence became obsolete.
The building "Dinshaw Terrace" opp. KEM Hospital, Parel was purchased in April 1970 and was renamed as Saraswat Sadan. The offices of the Sangh DurgaParameshwari Co. Op Society, library etc., are presently situated in this building.
His holiness Shrimad Sachchidanand Saraswati Swamiji Maharaj was kind enough to grace our temple Shri Adishakti MahaLaxmi Temple, Laxipura, Karkala Taluk and the annual "ChaturMasya" was celebrated from 8th July 1971 and our members had the opportunity of being blessed by his holiness. The four-month-old function was well attended by Saraswats of all over the country. Our Swamiji inaugurated the Poornanda Saraswati Sabha Bhavan (Hall) at Bantakal(Udupi Tq.). Our Swamiji also had visited and held audience at Shri DurgaParameshwari Temple at Puttur. Hence our Swamiji's blessing at the three temples in 1971 had furthered the religious devotion and social unity among us.
It heartening to note that the Sangh's members had participated in the All India Saraswat Cultural Organization, held from 17th Dec 1972 to 23rd Dec. 1972 in Mumbai. Our members used to attended the regular meetings held at Mahim, Mumbai, and participated in the proceedings of the organization. Shri H. Srinivas Nayak, B. A. (Hons.) LL.B., advocate, was encourage to practice in High Court Bombay. He was the first to practice law in Mumbai and was allowed to use Sangh's office premises.
Shri H. Manohar Prabhu B. E. was felicitated on 19th March 1972 on his proceeding to USA for further studies.
On 3rd Dec 1972 a special meeting was held to condole the sad an untimely demise of Shri Nagappa V. Nayak who expired on 29th Nov. 1972. He was deeply associated with the Sangh and played a leading role in construction of Satchidananda Saraswati Hall at Laxmipura.
It is sad to note that his Holiness Srimad Dwarkanath Thirth Swamiji of Gokarna Mutt attained the ultimate samadhi on 25th March 1973. The light that guided and inspired the millions of Saraswaths was out. His Holiness was the doyen of Vedic literature and Sanskrit Scholar. Our humble tributes.
The Sangh was allotted PAN under the income act (No. BBY/INS/R(a)4/73-74) in 1974. Financial aid by way of cash donations was granted to seven persons who were severely affected by floods.
Shri Waman Rao Mahadik, the then Chairman of the Standing Committee, Municipal Corporation of Mumbai, was felicitated on 15.5.75.
1975 was silver jubilee year of the Sangh. The occasion was celebrated with much pomp and glory. Several members took active part in fund raising, bringing out Souvenir, entertainment programs etc to make the occasion a grand success. The inauguration ceremony was held on 5th Oct 75 at Shanmukhananda Hall Sion Mumbai followed by religious functions on 27th Dec 1975, Maha Ganapathi homa, and Sathya Narayana Pooja and haldi kumkum in the evening. The founders of the Sangh were honored by presenting shawls and bouquets. There was an entertainment proggramme and a marathi drama "Kaka Kishacha".
It is heartening to note that Mahila Mandal - A wing of female members of the Sangh was inaugurated on 27th Dec 1976.
A sewing class was inaugurated on 27th Oct 1977 on Dasara date under the supervision of Mahila Mandal, a wing of the Sangh. The Mahila Mandal expressed its gratitude to the donors of sewing machines. The Mahila Mandal has been organizing pilgrimages, tips to Holy/Historic places , Bajans, Kirtans and Haldi Kumkum etc.
His holiness Shrimad Sachchidanand Saraswati Swamiji graced the Chaturmasya, celebrated at Shri Durga Parmeshwari temple at Bantakal in 1976. The 4 month long function was well attended by Saraswaths from all over the country.
The Sangh mourned the sad demise and paid its rich tributes to Dr. T.M.A Pai, Manipal, who pioneered the banking, financial, health and Hospitals, Industries, Educational Institutes at Manipal and other places. He expired on 29th May 1979.
The Sangh felicitated Chi. Shivkumar, S/o Shri P.S. Prabhu, for securing first rank in the 12th std exams held by Maharashtra Higher Secondary School in 1979. The Sangh undertook a voluminous job of preparing a census of Rajapur/Bhalavalikar members area-wise in Mumbai and the same was ready during 1980. The details of the families and members were prepared and preserved in ledgers area-wise. It is heartening to know that Miss Sharavathi R. Prabhu D/o Shri Ramachandra S. Prabhu, had received the Merit certificate for obtaining first place in judo from Bombay Judo Association. She was awarded the Prashasti Patra from Defense Ministry and commendation certificate for mountaineering.
In order of expand the activities of the Sangh, a flat was purchased in Dombivali, in 1984. Thus our community has an extended opportunity in the suburbs.
It is heartening to note that GSB Seva Mandal, Sion, organized "Anti Dowry Awareness" programme on 12th May 1989 and representatives of our Sangh participated in the proceeding.
Two more funds were constituted during 1989. In memory of Shri. V.S. Prabhu, a memorial fund (Rs 8,000/-) by his brother Shri Rayappa S. Prabhu, and D.D.Prabhu scholarship fund by the same name.
Two dramas - Aushiche Nashib and Chedvache Thyag - both directed by Mr. Prabhakar D. Borkar were staged in our own language. Both the dramas were presented in a very successful manner. The idea was to encourage our mother tongue and to unite our people.
The Sangh is proud to state that many of it's members viz., Mr. Ramesh D. Prabhu (Parel), Mr. Madhav V. Prabhu (Dadar), Mr. Devenna K. Patkar (Dombivali) and Ms Rohini Nayak (Ghatkapor) were honored as special executive officers by the Govt. of Maharashtra in recognition of their social service.
The Rajapur Saraswath Youth Club - a youth wing of the Sangh was started in 1991 mainly to encourage the youngsters to perform voluntary work, organize sports and social events and to encourage the youths to improve and guide them.
Kumari Trivani was felicitated on 19th Sept 1991 on her being selected as one of the weight lifters from Maharashtra to represent India at Auckland, which she participated. Kum. Sapna R. Nayak who secured 90.42% marks in SSC in 1992 and was first in Merit in Hindi in Maharashtra was felicitated on 27th Sept 1992 and Master Deepak M.Wagle who bagged many awards in weight lifting was honored by our Sangh.
A corpus amount of Rs 6,000/- was donated by Smt. Rathnavathi S. Kamath to institute a scholarship (from accrued interest) in memory of Shri Shivarama G. Kamath in Sept 1992.
The Sangh mourned the sad and untimely demise of Shri Vedamoorthy N. Janardhana Bhat, Malad who left for his heavenly abode on 26th Oct. 1992.
Turning Point:our Swamiji Shrimad Sachchidanand Saraswati Swamiji initiated and adopted master Govinda Somnath Sanzgiri of Mumbai as the Shishya - successor to Swamiji - after the Deeksha ceremony. The young Swamiji was named as Shrimad Shivananda Saraswati Swamiji.
Mr.Suresh Prabhu, the then chairman of Saraswat Co-op. bank and presently the minister in union cabinet, Govt. of India, graced the annual general body meeting held on 22nd Sept. 1993 as chief guest.
Rank Holder: Mr.Vishwanath M. Nayak, S/O Mr.Mahendra T. Nayak, Dadar, ranked 15th in the Secondary school leaving exam, held by Maharashtra State S.S.C. board in 1996. Our best wishes.
Three scholarship funds with corpus of Rs.5000 each initiated during 1993-94 in memories of 1)Pilar Posarma Govind Prabhu and Padmavathi Prabhu 2) Pilar Posarma Sulochana Vasudev Prabhu and 3) Pilar Posarma Ramraya Prabhu.
Land Mark: our committee members initiated the move to organize a co-operative bank and steps were taken to further the same. The bank (R.S.Co-operative Bank Ltd)has been functioning as a full-fledged bank.
The Sangh had initiated a novel scheme: Students Educational Expenses Reimbursement Scheme i.e. to help and bear the expenses of education of students whose parents were below the poverty line.
Dream Fulfills: Our Samaj is happy that the long cherished dream to start a co-operative bank materialized in Oct 1996 when the Regn. certificate was received. The banking license was granted in Feb 1997. The bank is presently having the office at Borivili and is fully computerized. The performance of our bank is encouraging and looks forward to open up new avenues/branches else where to cater to the multifarious banking activities.
Shri Durgaparameshwari Co-op. Credit Society has been rendering yeomen services to satisfy the financial needs of Rajapur Saraswats/Balawalikars for the past over 40 years in Mumbai. The society has made tremendous progress.
