Biography Title


Born in 1887 at Neere Narolge, Karkala Taluka of Udupi District, Late Shri Borkar Neere Shyama Rayappa Nayak was a every unique personality of Rajapur/Bhalavalikar Saraswat Brahmana Community. Son of Rayappa Borkar, an agriculturist, had his Elementary Schooling and later became an agriculturist as his father was. He was married and had a daughter, but later he gave up his agricultural occupation to become an ascetic after he became a widower. He spent rest of his life as an leading personality dedicated for social and religious upliftment of his community.

From 1932 onwards he rendered remarkable service at Sri Adishakti Macaulay Temple, Laxmipura, Karkala Tq. by taking up the responsibility of renovation of the temple, performing the various religious functions that included "Brahma Kalasha" and subsequently organized the Community people around the temple living in far and near villages, awakening their religious conscience to provide all the facilities a full-feldged temple needed. Owing to his zest and zeal, the temple saw all round improvement, he being one of its trustees for seven years.

Further, at this time, efforts were being made to establish a temple at Bantakal dedicated to Durga Parameshwari under the stewardship of Late Pangal Upendra Srinivas Nayak. But it proved a very difficult task in so far as organizing the Community people in those difficult days. A Search for a leader who could organize and raise funds badly required for completing the temple work was on, and finally the responsibility fell on the mantle of Late Neere Shyama Nayak. He gladly accepted it on the assurance of Late Sri. Pangala Upendra S. Nayak who stood by him in performing the entrusted task successfully until the Diety Simhavahini Durga Devi was installed in 1942 (Chitra Shukla Dashmi of Chitrabhanu Samvastara). He worked as the President of Temple Erection Committee and later as President, Temple Trustees Board till he breathed his last. He did not rest with the installation ceremony. In the meantime he selected five vatus to be educated as Temple Archaks who would also perform the "Pourohitya" of the Samaj. He sent them to Late Kailaje Shivarama Bhat of Karkala for their Boarding and lodging.After their education, he got them appointed as the temple archakas. Thus the Community had the Archakas & Purohits for the Community itself for the first time.

Later turned his attention to provide other physical needs of the temple such as Agra Shala, Archa Niwas, Vasantha Mantap, Guest House, Utensils, etc. In less than a decade the physical needs of the temple were fulfilled. In addtion to these he took up another task of constructing a shopping complex building on the campus of the Temple Site for which he raised the money through Voluntary contributions for the donors. He also made adequate arrangements for Nithya Pooja and Naimithika Parvas by persuading the rich -land -owners of the Samaj to donate 9 Muras of rice every year as well as monthly and annual contributions from the Kulavis.

He also took very keen interest in calling an All India Rajapur/Bhalavalikar Saraswat Brahmana Conference held at Bantakal Temple premises on 19th and 20th May, 1956 which as a turning point in the history of this Community. Thus he served the community Zealously, selflessly and in true religious devotion and earned the name 'Pitamaha' of the Community. No wonder that in this memory , a Ratha (For Utsava) had been constructed for the Deity and was offered by His Holiness Guru Shri Satchidananda Saraswati Maharaj's devine hands.
